A suspected child trafficker has been arrested by the police in Nassarawa state.
The state command of the police revealed that they received a complaint stating that one Rifkatu Kuraga was in possession of a 3-year-old boy whom she had taken to Imo to sell to a prophetess.
However, the police got wind of her move, trailed, arrested her, and rescued the child.
Investigations carried out revealed that the 35-year-old suspect abducted the child on November 23rd.
Statement by the state police reads: “Upon receipt of the complaints, Police operatives attached to Garaku Division immediately swung into action and got one Rifkatu Kuraga ‘F’ 35yrs of Area 1, Garaku arrested and the missing three-year-old child was rescued and reunited with the family.”
Kuraga has confessed to the crime and efforts are being made to arrest the prophetess who is currently on the run.
The commissioner of police has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia for further questioning.
In other news, a lady has been apprehended by the police for locking a 6-year-old girl in a room for months.
The woman by the name Olanrewaju Adenike held a 6-year-old Aishat Taiwo hostage in a filthy room by the toilet for two months in Osun state.
The state police spokesman, Yemisi Opalola disclosed to newsmen that the little girl had undergone a series of harsh treatment from her captor before she was finally rescued. Read more
