A 400-Level student at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Warriz Said, popularly identified as Captain Walz, has reportedly beaten a lecturer, Mrs Zakariyyah, to stupor after an altercation on his academics.
Naija News learnt that Walz who is a rapper failed to observe the mandatory Students Industrial Work Scheme (SIWES) and that meant he could graduate with his colleagues.
He allegedly tried lobbying his supervisor to grade him despite not observing SIWES and she refused.
It was gathered that her decision severely infuriated him.
Walz was said to have chased the lecturer into an office where he started punching her hard.
While trying to escape, the lecturer reportedly fell down and was strangled by the student till she fell into coma.
The university’s director of public relations, Mr Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident to reporters by telephone on Saturday night.
He said “a visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, in company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Oladiji, the Director, University Health Services, Dr Odunola and a few other staff to the victim and her family, this morning, Saturday, confirmed that.”
“They described the incident unfortunate and sad and assured justice will be done on the matter.
“He ordered proper care of the victim on the bill of the university”, Akogun added.
The university administration condemned the incident and vowed to take appropriate action.
