U.S Government Reacts As Nigeria Arrests Wanted Terrorist Leaders

The United States government has commended the efforts of the Nigerian government and its security forces, which resulted in the recent arrest of two wanted terrorist leaders.

The United States Mission in Nigeria, in a statement on Monday, said the arrest of the criminals is a significant step in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The statement commended the Nigerian government for the successful arrests.

“We commend the Nigerian Government and security forces on the successful arrest of wanted #Ansaru leaders, Mahmud Muhammad Usman (aka Abu Bara’a) and Mahmud al-Nigeri (aka Mallam Mamuda). This is a significant forward in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and extremism,” the Mission said.

Naija News recalls that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, on Friday disclosed that the Federal Government has captured two notorious terrorist leaders wanted globally.

The suspects, identified as Amir Mahmud Mohammed Usman, popularly known as Abu Baraa, and his deputy, Amir Marmuda, were arrested in a special operation.

According to Ribadu, the duo are top commanders of the Ansaru Terrorist Organisation, otherwise known as Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi-Biladis Sudan, an Al-Qaeda affiliate in Nigeria, as well as the Mahmudawa terrorist group.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the NSA explained that the capture was the outcome of a carefully coordinated security operation conducted within the last two months.
