The President of the United States, Donald Trump is set to attend the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday, according to ESPN.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino praised the U.S. government’s involvement in the Club World Cup, saying: “We have received such a big support from the government and from the president with the White House taskforce for the FIFA Club World Cup and for the FIFA World Cup next year.”
He added, “FIFA is a global organisation and to be global you have to be local, you have to be everywhere, so we have to be in New York.”
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final will take place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, bringing an end to a month-long global tournament that featured 32 teams.
Chelsea have already sealed their place in the grand finale following a commanding 2-0 victory over Brazilian side Fluminense in Tuesday’s semi-final.
Joao Pedro, Chelsea’s latest signing from Brighton, delivered a statement performance with a brace that ensured the Blues’ passage into Sunday’s showdown.
Chelsea will face either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, who are set to battle it out in the second semi-final at the same venue at 8 p.m. tonight.
Note that the Club World Cup took on a new format this year, expanding to 32 teams and was structured like a traditional World Cup.
Manchester City, the reigning champions, were eliminated earlier in the competition, leaving Chelsea with the opportunity to bring the trophy back to England.
