The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has claimed that his interventions helped avert wars in various global hotspots, including the Middle East, even as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies.
In a post on his Truth Social account on Sunday, Trump lamented that he does “a lot” in global diplomacy but “never gets credit,” while expressing optimism that peace between Israel and Iran is achievable.
Trump wrote, “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal. Just like I got India and Pakistan to make [a deal], in that case by using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP!”
Trump also revisited his role in brokering peace talks during his first term between Serbia and Kosovo, as well as Egypt and Ethiopia over the Nile River dam dispute.
“During my first term, Serbia and Kosovo were going at it hot and heavy… I stopped it,” he stated, though he provided no details or evidence to support his claims. “There is peace, at least for now, because of my intervention, and it will stay that way!”
He took a swipe at President Joe Biden, saying Biden’s administration had “hurt the longer-term prospects” for peace through “very stupid decisions,” but added confidently, “I will fix it, again!”
Trump’s comments come just a day after he threatened Iran that it would experience “the full strength” of the US military if it attacks the United States in response to its escalating conflict with Israel.
The tension between the two nations intensified following Israel’s recent airstrikes in Iran that reportedly killed several high-ranking Iranian military officials.
In retaliation, Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles toward Israel, killing at least three people, according to Israeli sources.
Despite the rising hostilities, Trump insisted that “many calls and meetings” are underway and peace is possible. “I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand,” he concluded.
