Liverpool are on the verge of sealing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with a bid reportedly topping £70 million, beating out a rejected £70 million offer from Newcastle.
Hugo Ekitike, 23, is coming off a standout Bundesliga campaign, scoring 15 goals and recording 8 assists in 31 starts. His 117 shots on goal were the highest in the league last season, and his xG of 21.6 ranked second only to Harry Kane.
With Alexander Isak off the table, the Reds view Ekitike as their central striker solution in place of their late Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota.
Meanwhile, Ekitike is open to the move, drawn by the chance to join the Premier League champions.
Newcastle Pivot to Yoane Wissa
With Frankfurt holding firm on Ekitike, Newcastle United are now turning their attention to Yoane Wissa of Brentford. The 28-year-old striker had a breakout season, scoring 19 Premier League goals, all from inside the box, ranking second for open-play goals in the 2024-2025 season.
Wissa, who stepped into the central role following Ivan Toney’s departure, is also on the radar of Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, but Newcastle are expected to step up their interest within 24 hours.
Manchester United Continue Their Push For Bryan Mbeumo
Manchester United have tabled a third bid worth up to £70 million for Bryan Mbeumo, with £65 million upfront and £5 million in add-ons. United hope to wrap the deal before flying to the U.S. for pre-season, where manager Ruben Amorim wants Mbeumo integrated into his system.
The 25-year-old scored 20 league goals last season and prefers a move to Old Trafford, despite interest from Spurs and others.
