Tottenham Hotspur have completed the permanent signing of French forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for a fee of around £30 million.
Mathys Tel, 20, currently with the France Under-21 squad at the European Championship, will sign a six-year deal with Spurs when his loan officially ends on June 30.
Tel initially joined Spurs on loan during the January transfer window, with an option to buy set at £45 million. However, Tottenham successfully negotiated a lower fee with Bayern Munich to make the move permanent.
The young striker made 20 appearances and scored three goals for the North London side last season.
He was also part of the matchday squad during Tottenham’s Europa League final victory over Manchester United, though he did not feature in the game.
With Thomas Frank now at the helm, Spurs are continuing their summer rebuild and have turned their attention to Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian is also a transfer target for Manchester United, who reportedly had a bid rejected earlier in the summer.
United, now managed by Ruben Amorim, are keen to bolster their attacking options after a disappointing finish last season.
Should a move for Mbeumo fail, the Red Devils are considering alternatives such as Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.
United have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are expected to continue their recruitment drive in the coming weeks.
