1. Buhari Travels To London For Medical Check-Up, Summit
President Muhammadu Buhari will today, Monday 26th July depart Abuja, Nigeria for London, United Kingdom to participate in the Global Education Summit on Financing Global Partnership for Education (GPE) 2021-2025.
President Buhari will also use the opportunity to see his doctors for an earlier scheduled medical check-up.
The details of the President’s trip were made available to Naija News in a statement on Monday by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.
The President is expected back in Nigeria in the second week of August 2021.
2. DSS Reveals Reason For Not Bringing Nnamdi Kanu To Court
The Department of State Services, DSS has given reason for not producing the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in court on Monday, July 26, 2021.
Naija News reports that the security agency gave logistics difficulties as a reason why the secessionist did not appear in court today.
Aloy Ejimakor, a member of the IPOB leader’s legal team, revealed this during an interview with newsmen on Monday. Kanu was absent from court when his trial resumed at the Federal High Court Abuja today, as a result, Justice Binta Nyako, postponed the trial.
3. Buhari Signs N982.7bn Supplementary Budget Into Law
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday signed the 2021 Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N982,729,695,343 into law.
The development was disclosed to State House Correspondents by Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matter (House of Representatives), Umar Ibrahim el-Yakub.
Naija News understands that the newly signed Act will largely focus on funding security and health sector concerns.
4. Why Governors Are Defecting To APC – PDP Govs
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ forum Waziri Tambuwal has revealed why some of his colleagues are defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tambuwal, who was represented by Taraba Governor, Darius Ishaku, spoke at the gala night on Sunday at the Bauchi Government House banquet hall to welcome the PDP Governors in the State.
According to the Sokoto governor, governors are joining the APC to avoid being prosecuted for their corrupt deeds.
He stated that the opposition party will regain power in 2023 and improve the living standards of Nigerians.
5. Suspended Kano Anti-Graft Boss In Police Custody
The suspended chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, is currently in police custody.
It was gathered that the suspended chairman of the commission was invited by the police over the alleged forgery of a medical report.
Recall that the state assembly recommended Gado’s arrest over an alleged forged medical report that his lawyer presented to the house.
The state assembly had summoned him but his lawyer had presented a report that he could not honour the summons because he was ill.
6. Bandits Kidnap Another First Class Kaduna Monarch
The Traditional Ruler of Jaba Chiefdom in the Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Gyet Maude, has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
According to the brother of the monarch, Anthony Maude, the victim was kidnapped on his farm located at Gitata community in Nasarawa State.
The community is located at the boundary between Kaduna and Nasarawa states
It is not yet clear if the royal father, who is over 80-year-old, went to the farm alone or was accompanied by his security details.
7. Nnamdi Kanu To Remain With DSS As Court Reject Transfer Request
Justice Binta Nyako has rejected a request to transfer the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to Kuje correctional centre.
Naija News reports that the judge gave the order on Monday during the resumption of Kanu’s trial in Abuja.
Nnamdi Kanu through his counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had asked Justice Nyako to transfer him as he cannot get a fair trial if he remains in the custody of the DSS.
He also sought an order to grant him access to his medical doctor for the purpose of carrying out a comprehensive independent medical examination on him.
Ruling on the application, Justice Nyako ordered that the DSS should allow access to Kanu, although it won’t be a free-for-all.
8. Police Charge 48 Suspected Yoruba Nation Agitators For ‘Unlawful Assembly’
The Lagos Police Command has charged 48 suspects Yoruba Nation agitators arrested during a rally at the Gani Fawehimi Freedom park in Ojota a few weeks ago.
Naija News reports that the state Police Commissioner, Kayode Odumosu, charged the suspects before a Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba for unlawful assembly, unlawful society, and conducts likely to cause a breach of public peace.
But last week, the Yoruba self-determination groups’ umbrella body Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO) had risen in defence of those arrested, securing their bail from the Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba.
However, court documents obtained by The Nation, Odumosu, said that some of the suspects were intercepted and found with guns, axes, Oodua flags, Yoruba Armed Forces vests, and other items. Others were arrested at the protest ground in Ojota.
9. Why FG Retained DIGs, AIGs After IGP’s Appointment – Dingyadi
The Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has revealed why the federal government retained some senior police officers after the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali.
Naija News had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari refused to retire any Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) when Baba was appointed police chief.
Speaking during the decoration of 24 newly promoted Commissioners of Police to AIGs, Dingyadi said the high level of insecurity made the government retain the senior police officers.
The minister stressed that was the first time of such development in the recent history of the Nigerian Police Force.
10. Face Banditry And Kidnapping – PDP Governors Slam Buhari, APC
Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have told President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to end issues of kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and general insecurity affecting Nigeria.
The PDP Governors disagreed with the APC-led federal government that those involved in such activities are engaged in business ventures.
They, therefore, submitted that the current administration must show the political will to end insecurity in the country using military equipment, traditional means, and technology.
The governors made their minds known in a communique issued at the end of their meeting in Bauchi State.
