1. Tinubu Did Not Make Buhari President – Boss Mustapha
The immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu made his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, President.
Naija News reports that in the buildup of the 2023 presidential election, President Bola Tinubu had claimed that he was instrumental in making Buhari President.
However, speaking at the unveiling of Garba Shehu’s book “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience,” the former SGF said Buhari already had 12 million votes and that the merger of the legacy parties merely contributed three million votes.
Mustapha, who admitted that the Congress For Progressive Change (CPC) controlled only one state while the All Progressives Congress (APC) was being formed, maintained that the votes that delivered victory for APC came from the CPC and followers of Buhari.
2. We Are Not In The Senate To Make Money – Akpabio Defends Lawmakers During Electricity Bill Debate
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated that lawmakers are not in the Senate to make money.
Akpabio stated this on the floor of the Senate during debate on the general principles of the Bill for an Act to amend the Electricity Act, 2023.
The bill will address emerging issues in the Nigerian electric power sector, enhance policy and regulatory coordination, strengthen sectoral financing, protect critical electricity infrastructure, foster industrial relations in the sector, clarify transitional arrangements, redefine host community engagements by licensees operating in the Nigerian electricity supply industry; and for related matters, 2025 (SB. 862).
In his remarks, Akpabio noted that without electricity, industrial growth in the country would be impossible. He said everyone is looking forward to a total overhaul of the electricity sector.
“People think we are here in the Senate to make money, not knowing that we are here to sacrifice for future generations,” he added at plenary on Tuesday.
3. Many Coalition Members Have Done Evil, I Can’t Sit With Them – Sowore
The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has again dissociated himself from the emerging 2027 opposition coalition.
Speaking on Wednesday during Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’, Sowore said many politicians in the coalition have done Nigeria dirty and committed evil acts during their time in government.
Describing them as politicians without conscience, character or pedigree, Sowore stated that he can’t even sit across the table from some of the coalition members.
Naija News reports that he added that there is no way some of the coalition members can wash themselves clean of the evil acts they’ve committed in the past.
4. Many APC Governors Secretly Backing Opposition Coalition – Babachir Lawal
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has claimed that several leaders within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including sitting governors, are disenchanted with the party and are secretly supporting the newly formed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Naija News reports that Lawal made the revelation during an appearance on Beyond the Headlines, a programme aired on TVC News on Tuesday evening.
His comments come barely a week after the coalition of opposition leaders formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform to challenge the APC in the next election cycle.
Speaking on behalf of the opposition alliance, Lawal said that prominent politicians across party lines are already on board.
He insisted the coalition is not a personal attack on President Bola Tinubu, but a deliberate attempt to steer the country away from what he described as poor governance.
5. Expired, Desperate Politicians Are Shouting On TV – Nuhu Ribadu Blasts Tinubu Critics
National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is a very educated and digital leader.
He warned those who underestimate him that they do so at their own peril.
Ribadu, who spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the National Cyber Security Conference 2025, which had the theme ‘Building a Resilient Digital Future’, criticised individuals who opposed Tinubu’s administration.
The NSA berated politicians constantly granting interviews on Television to rubbish Tinubu’s government, maintaining that they are simply desperate for power.
He insisted that Nigeria is safer and better under Tinubu, adding that the economy is already stabilising.
6. Supreme Court Fixes Date To Give Final Ruling On Edo Election Dispute
The Supreme Court has fixed Thursday, July 10, 2025, to deliver its judgment on the 2024 Edo Governorship Election.
Naija News reports that Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is challenging the election of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the governor of Edo State.
The ruling date was communicated to parties involved in the dispute.
The court had last week adjourned indefinitely after hearing arguments from parties involved.
The apex court, after hearing arguments, reserved its ruling sine die (without a fixed date), stating that a new judgment date would be communicated in due course.
Represented by Ken Mozia (SAN), Ighodalo argued that he scored the majority of lawful votes and should have been returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, INEC, through its counsel Kanu Agabi (SAN), opposed the appeal and urged the apex court to dismiss it outright for lacking merit.
Agabi argued that Ighodalo and the PDP had initially rejected the entire election in their petition, branding it “unlawful and invalid” due to alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.
7. ‘You Can’t Silence My Mum’ – Priscilla Ojo Shares Life-Threatening Letter Iyabo Received Weeks Before Fire Outbreak
Influencer, Priscilla Ojo-Mkambala has shared the life-threatening letter her mother, Iyabo Ojo received few weeks before the fire outbreak at her Lagos office.
Naija News reports that Mrs Mkambala posted the letter on her Instagram story, which was signed by the alleged “aggrieved group” on 24th May, 2025.
According to the newly-wed, the letter delivered to Iyabo’s office was first a threat to life and then a strategy to ruin her wedding but her mother did not get to read it because she was in transit to Tanzania for the wedding.
In the content of the letter, the anonymous sender accused Iyabo Ojo of causing trouble for someone in the past but still going ahead to celebrate and give out their daughter in marriage.
The message warned that they are being closely watched and would not escape the consequences of their actions.
Reacting, Priscilla stated that efforts are underway to uncover the identity of the delivery agent.
She confirmed that additional CCTV cameras have been installed at her mother’s home and office to help investigations.
She also declared that her mother saying they will not be intimidated or silenced.
8. ‘Afrobeats Would Have Been Bigger If Davido, Wizkid, Others Were Collaborating’ – Asa Asika
The manager of Nigerian award-winning singer, Davido, Asa Asika, has claimed that Afrobeats would have been bigger and more successful if the singer had collaborated with his colleague, Wizkid and other artistes.
Naija News reports that Asika made the statement while discussing Afrobeats’ global success during his appearance on the ‘Afropolitan’ podcast.
Asika attributed the success of Latin music to strong collaborations among artistes such as J Balvin, Nicky Jam, Bad Bunny, and others.
While urging Afrobeats artistes to prioritise collaboration, Davido’s manager insisted that a joint project would increase global traction.
He said, “Afrobeat would have been bigger if Davido, Wizkid and the likes of others were collaborating. I might be wrong but the probability of Afrobeat being more successful and bigger is a thing. Our genre ticket values at international shows will be stronger.”
9. PSG Humiliate Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid, To Face Chelsea In 2025 Club World Cup Final
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) stunned Real Madrid with a humiliating 4-0 victory on Wednesday night, securing their place in the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The Club World Cup semi-finals, which took place at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, earlier today, July 9, saw former PSG star Kylian Mbappé face his old club for the first time since his move to Madrid last summer.
But what many anticipated as a triumphant night for the Frenchman quickly descended into a humbling ordeal.
From the outset, PSG were ruthless. Within six minutes, Fabian Ruiz drew first blood, pouncing on a loose ball in the area to give the Parisians the lead.
The early strike rattled Madrid’s backline, and just three minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé made it two. Capitalising on a miscue from Antonio Rüdiger, Dembélé calmly slotted past Courtois to double the advantage.
Luis Enrique’s side pressed high, suffocated Madrid’s buildup, and moved the ball with a tempo the Spaniards couldn’t match. Jude Bellingham and Mbappé had fleeting moments of creativity, but they were smothered by a well-drilled PSG midfield and defence.
Ruiz added a second in the 24th minute, finishing off a swift one-two with Achraf Hakimi to put the French champions three up before the half-hour mark.
Madrid never recovered. Even as coach Carlo Ancelotti turned to his bench, introducing Luka Modrić, Éder Militão, and Brahim Díaz in the second half, PSG maintained control, both tactically and psychologically.
Gonçalo Ramos completed the rout with a well-taken finish in the 87th minute after a lightning-fast counterattack, ensuring a scoreline as brutal as it was deserved.
10. Tax Fraud: Former Real Madrid Coach, Carlo Ancelotti Gets One Year Jail Sentence
A Spanish court has sentenced former Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, to one year in prison for tax fraud relating to undeclared income during his first spell with the Spanish club in 2014.
However, the 66-year-old Italian tactician will not serve time behind bars, as the sentence falls under the threshold that requires no incarceration under Spanish law.
Naija News reports that the court ruling, delivered on Wednesday, found that Ancelotti used a network of shell companies to conceal income derived from image rights, a common financial arrangement among elite football professionals.
Prosecutors had alleged that Ancelotti failed to declare over €1 million in earnings between 2014 and 2015.
They initially sought a four-year and nine-month prison sentence, accusing the veteran manager of orchestrating a deliberate scheme to evade tax payments while managing Real Madrid.
The court, however, did clear him of charges related to the 2015 tax year, providing a partial reprieve for the highly decorated football figure.
Naija News understands that, despite the court verdict, Ancelotti, who no longer resides in Spain, will not be confined to the prison walls.
