1. Tinubu Departs Abuja For Abu Dhabi For ADSW 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu left Abuja on Saturday evening to participate in the 2025 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2025), which will take place from January 12 to 18 in the United Arab Emirates.
ADSW 2025, themed “The Nexus of Next: Supercharging Sustainable Progress,” is a global platform dedicated to advancing sustainable development and fostering international collaboration.
The event will convene policymakers, business leaders, and civil society representatives to explore innovative strategies for accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy and promoting socioeconomic growth.
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to highlight his administration’s achievements and ongoing reforms to advance energy sufficiency, modernise transportation, improve public health, and foster economic development.
In addition to attending the summit, President Tinubu and his delegation will engage in bilateral discussions with the leadership of the UAE to explore opportunities for strengthening ties and addressing mutual interests.
This visit follows a previous engagement in September 2023, during which both nations finalized a historic agreement that immediately ceased the visa ban on Nigerian travellers.
2. ‘The Time For Lamentation Is Over’ – President Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has reiterated that he remains committed to building a Nigeria that works for every citizen.
The President promised that he remains committed to bequeathing a nation where peace reigns, opportunities abound, and every citizen can dream, work, and thrive in safety.
Naija News reports President Tinubu made the emphasis in a post via his X account on Saturday in which he recalled the presentation of the 2025 budget to the National Assembly.
According to him, the time has come to stop lamentations and start acting, noting that all Nigerians can look forward to a brighter future.
Tinubu, in his statement, noted that while the road to transformation and reform has not been easy, undeniable progress has been recorded.
3. How Tinubu Will Reduce Nigeria’s Inflation To 15% In 2025 – Presidency
The presidency on Saturday insisted that President Bola Tinubu will fulfill the agenda of reducing Nigeria’s inflation to 15% by December 2025.
The Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, said agriculture and food security is one of the ways the President intended to achieve his aim.
Speaking via a statement on his X account, Olusegun said several mechanisms have already been put in place to achieve the agenda.
Naija News recalls President Tinubu had, during the presentation of the ₦47.9 trillion 2025 budget to the National Assembly, stated that the budget projects a decline in inflation from the current 34.6% to 15%. He also reiterated it in his 2025 New Year message.
His projection has, however, elicited pessimism from certain quarters. But the presidency, on Saturday, insisted that the aim would be achieved.
The media aide disclosed that part of the steps put in place to achieve the dream include the delivery of 2,000 tractors, 4000 disc ploughs, 1000 disc ridges, 1200 tractor trailers and other assorted spare parts to Nigeria in the next few weeks.
He added that an agricultural manufacturing firm, JohnDeere, is also expected to set up assembly/maintenance plants for this equipment in Nigeria.
4. Untold Setback And Hardship – Peter Obi Reacts As National Grid Suffers First Collapse In 2025
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has condemned the incessant collapse of the National Grid in Nigeria.
He lamented that the collapse has now become a recurring decimal in Nigeria’s national life.
Obi submitted that the constant collapses have caused untold setbacks and hardship for households and businesses in the country.
The former Governor of Anambra State made his position known in a statement on Saturday while reacting to the most recent collapse of the grid.
Naija News reported that barely ten days into the new year, Nigeria’s national power grid experienced its first major collapse of 2025 on Saturday, plunging the nation into a widespread blackout.
This is the 13th grid failure in the past 13 months, and many Nigerians are frustrated by the recurring outages.
On his part, Peter Obi blamed the incessant collapses on the lack of commitment from the leaders of Nigeria to the development of the country.
He appealed to the government to improve the power sector and other aspects of national life so citizens wouldn’t continue to suffer economic burdens.
5. “No Jupiter Will Overturn That” – IPOB Declares Position As Okwukwu Emerges Ohanaeze President General
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has cautioned against any action that could sabotage the emergence of Uche Okwukwu, as the President-General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
IPOB made this known in a statement on Saturday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, in which it declared support for the emergence of Okwukwu as the president-general of Ohanaeze.
The statement by Powerful particularly warned Governors from the southeast region against sabotaging the interest of the Igbo nation.
Naija News recalls Okwukwu was elected on Friday during the organization’s convention held in Port Harcourt, but there are reports of another factional president also emerging.
Reacting to the development, IPOB warned that should the Governors make any further move tantamount to imposing any person on the leadership of Ohanaeze, then it would mobilize to ensure that none of them will ever be reelected nor occupy any position of influence in the region again.
6. Court Bars Anyanwu From Parading As PDP Secretary, Threatens Imprisonment
An Enugu High Court has restrained Samuel Anyanwu from parading himself as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that failure to comply could result in imprisonment.
The judgment, delivered by Justice C.O. Ajah, came in response to a suit filed by Emmanuel Aniagu against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Iliya Umar Damagun, Senator Anyanwu, and the PDP National Vice Chairman for the Southeast, Ali Odefa.
Naija News gathered that the court declared that Anyanwu’s actions were inconsistent with the PDP’s constitution and rules, emphasizing his conflict of interest in holding dual roles as National Secretary and gubernatorial candidate for the Imo State election.
Justice Ajah ruled that Anyanwu had effectively relinquished his position as National Secretary by his conduct, which included assuming the role of the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Imo State in the 2023 election.
“The 3rd defendant (Anyanwu) is hereby restrained from further parading himself as the National Secretary of the 1st defendant (PDP), having relinquished the said position by his conduct,” the court ruled.
7. Tinubu’s Reforms Driving Nigeria On Path To Recovery With ₦930 Billion Revenue Boost – Finance Minister
The economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu‘s administration, including market-driven fuel pricing and adjustments to foreign exchange policies, have reportedly saved Nigeria approximately ₦930 billion in previously lost revenue.
This represents a 5% reduction in revenue losses, according to Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
Speaking to the Senate Committee on Appropriations during a briefing on the 2025 Appropriation Bill, Edun described the inherited economy as precarious but credited targeted reforms for steering the country towards recovery.
“The administration inherited an economy on the brink, but through targeted reforms, we are now on a recovery path,” the minister said.
He highlighted the 100% implementation of the 2024 recurrent expenditure as evidence of the government’s ability to meet obligations despite economic challenges.
Edun also noted that Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew beyond 3% in 2024, surpassing the growth rates of many developed nations.
8. North Can Only Overcome Numerous Challenges Through Unity – Babangida
Former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has stated that the North can only overcome its numerous challenges through unity.
Babangida stated this while receiving officials from the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI) at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.
The elder statesman commended the NSYEI’s efforts, urging them to work tirelessly towards uniting the north and, ultimately, the entire country.
He said, “Only through unity can the north overcome its numerous challenges, which makes the birth of Northern Star movement at this time both commendable and timely.”
He stressed that unity was the key to overcoming the region’s challenges, making the NSYEI’s movement both timely and commendable.
The NSYEI officials, led by former Sokoto State governor Attahiru Bafarawa, co-chairperson Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed, and Director-General Dr. Abdullahi Idris, shared Babangida’s sentiments.
9. “They Don’t Happen” – Dunamis Church Ex-Pastor Opens Up On Pastor Enenche’s Alleged Fake Miracles
A former pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), Abraham Daniel, has alleged that the miracles performed by the church’s Senior Pastor, Paul Enenche, are not authentic.
According to SaharaReporters, in an interview with Kaa Truths, Daniel outlined his reasons for leaving the church, citing frustration with what he described as the flawed approach to “healing and deliverance.”
He claimed that after each healing and deliverance service, more people seeking healing would emerge than those who initially attended for it.
He described the chaotic atmosphere of the services, likening it to the panic of a stadium crowd reacting to the presence of a dangerous animal.
“When people see the crowd, they do the unthinkable. It’s like hearing there’s a lion nearby; even a crippled might jump the fence,” he said.
Daniel further stated that the large crowds at Dunamis services often push people to act out of desperation.
10. EFCC Invites Okoya’s Sons For Interrogation Over Naira Abuse
Two sons of Nigerian billionaire industrialist, Razaq Okoya, Subomi and Wahab, have been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for interrogation over the abuse of Naira.
Naija News reports that in the invite signed by the acting director of the Lagos directorate of the EFCC, Michael Wetkas, the anti-graft agency directed the duo to report to the head of the special operations team at the 15A Awolowo Road office of the commission by 10am on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Recall that Okoya’s children have been in the news for abusing the naira in a promotional video for a new song.
In the video, a policeman is seen holding some cash as the brothers dance and toss the naira notes into the air.
However, in a statement on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the policeman featured in the video has been detained.
Adejobi added that the policeman is being subjected to disciplinary action.
