1. It’s A Political Miscalculation For Peter Obi To Think He Can Defeat Tinubu In 2027 – Ohanaeze Ndigbo
A faction of the Igbo Sociocultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.
The group, in a statement on Sunday by its Deputy President General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said Obi lacks the political credentials to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
It added that Obi’s interest in the 2027 race could render the Igbos as political sacrificial lambs in Nigeria and also derail future political pursuits.
Isiguzoro added that while the submission may be uncomfortable, it is the truth, and Ohanaeze would not shy away from the bitter truth, noting that the Igbos are tired of playing opposition politics under Peter Obi’s leadership.
2. Senate Denies Akpabio-Bamidele Clash, Labels Report Baseless
The Senate has dismissed reports of a clash between the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, during a recent executive session.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, described the claims as baseless and misleading.
He insisted that the reports misrepresented standard legislative processes as signs of internal discord.
According to the Senate spokesperson, vigorous debate remains a hallmark of parliamentary democracy and does not indicate disunity among members.
Adaramodu stressed that the deliberations, whether in plenary or committee sessions, should not be mistaken for personal altercations or signs of division within the Senate leadership.
3. Kwankwaso Trying To Increase Market Value, Force Negotiation With Tinubu – Presidency
Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has described former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso’s criticism as a political stunt.
Recall that Kwankwaso, during a stakeholders’ dialogue on the 2025 constitutional amendment in Kano, accused Tinubu’s government of favouring the South at the expense of the North, an allegation the Presidency swiftly countered.
Reacting to Kwankwaso’s statement, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, dismissed the accusations, asserting that the North has benefited significantly under the current government.
Speaking to Punch, Bwala claimed that Kwankwaso’s outburst was a political stunt aimed at re-entering negotiations with the President.
Bwala added that Kwankwaso’s exclusion from recent coalition talks and the media spotlight was deliberate, suggesting the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader’s antics were aimed at staying relevant.
4. Fictitious And Libellous – Obasanjo Denies Allocating 501 Hectares To Ghanaian Tycoon
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has dismissed allegations claiming that he allocated 501 hectares of land to a Ghanaian businessman, Sam Jonah, to set up River Park Estate, Abuja.
Obasanjo stated this in a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police.
In a petition he wrote to the Police in the wake of the feud over ownership of River Park Estate, Sam Jonah claimed that Obasanjo had given him the large expanse of land housing one of Abuja’s biggest Estates.
The IGP had, in a letter dated July 4, 2025, requested the former President to confirm whether the claim by Sam Jonah, that he (Obasanjo) allocated 501 hectares of land to him to develop River Park Estate, was true or false.
Responding, Obasanjo said, “The claim of Sam Jonah that I invited him to allocate 501 hectares of land to him or his company or one single plot of land for that matter is absolutely untrue, fictitious, misleading and libelous.”
Obasanjo’s response is said by police to be consistent with his earlier letter dated 1st July 2025, wherein he asserted that if Sam Jonah said he allocated any land to him at all, he’s completely mistaken in his recollection.
5. Tinubu’s Borrowing 10 Times Worse Than Buhari – ADC Knocks APC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed outrage over what it describes as “fiscal vandalism” by the Tinubu administration following the approval of yet another $21 billion in foreign loans by the National Assembly.
The ADC made this known in a statement to Naija News on Sunday evening, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
The party stated that this new wave of borrowing will drive Nigeria’s public debt beyond ₦200 trillion before the end of the year, with no corresponding development or economic revival to justify it.
The ADC accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of surpassing his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, by mortgaging the country’s future in mountains of debts in the name of economic reform.
The party also slammed the National Assembly for acting as a rubber stamp, saying lawmakers had abdicated their duty to protect Nigerians from the consequences of unsustainable debt.
6. Court Orders NYSC To Allow Skirts For Female Corps Members
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to allow female corps members to wear skirts during service if they have religious reasons for not wearing trousers.
According to the Guardian, the ruling came after two former corps members, Miss Ogunjobi John Blessing and Miss Ayuba Vivian, sued the NYSC for denying them the right to complete their service year in skirts.
Naija News reports that the court found that NYSC’s insistence on a trousers-only uniform violated the applicants’ constitutional rights to freedom of religion and personal dignity.
Both women had refused to wear trousers due to their Christian faith and were denied certificates after the programme.
Justice Hauwa Joseph Yilwa, who handled the case, ruled that the NYSC must recognise and permit skirts for female corps members with genuine religious beliefs.
The court also ordered the NYSC to recall the affected women and issue them their service certificates.
Each applicant was awarded ₦500,000 in damages for the emotional distress and embarrassment they suffered.
The court described the NYSC’s action as discriminatory and a violation of the applicants’ rights to practice their religion without being harassed or punished for it.

Nigerian actress, Bisola Aiyeola, has revealed that she is no longer focused on getting married or having more children.
The 39-year-old reality TV star, made this known during a chat on the Dear Ife podcast hosted by Ifedayo Agoro.

Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has officially ended her working relationship with her longtime manager, Mekka Millions.
Naija News reports that the announcement was made by the songstress on Saturday, July 26, through her Instagram stories.
She cautioned event organisers, brands, and promoters not to contact Mekka for any bookings or business-related matters concerning her.
Tiwa made it clear that she is no longer affiliated with Mekka and would not be responsible for any money lost by those who continue to deal with him.
She revealed that Vanessa Amadi has now taken over as her official manager.
Mekka had managed Tiwa Savage for over a decade, stepping into the role after her former husband, Tee Billz, exited the position in 2014.

Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting she has called time on her international career.
Naija News reports that the 30-year-old football star, who featured in Nigeria’s victorious campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), clarified her stance while speaking to journalists in Rabat, Morocco, following Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 win over host nation Morocco in the tournament’s final on Saturday night.
Reacting to the retirement rumours, the six-time African Women’s Player of the Year said the claims were completely false and unfounded.
Her comments put to rest recent social media speculation that she was stepping away from the national team after over a decade of service.
