President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGF) to the Presidency.
Naija News reports that the directive was announced during the 150th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) held at the State House in Abuja.
President Tinubu stated that the transfer is a strategic step aimed at expediting the implementation of national legacy infrastructure projects.
The purpose of the transfer is to ensure coordinated planning, geospatial management, and timely execution of priority federal infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway.
President Tinubu also emphasized that transfer of the Surveyor-General’s office to the direct supervision of the Presidency would eliminate bureaucratic delays and improve oversight of the administration’s strategic development goals.
“We must break away from bottlenecks. Our legacy projects are too important to be delayed. We’re taking direct control to ensure results,” the President said.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Omotenioye Majekodunmi as Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).
The appointment was confirmed in a press release on Thursday from the State House.
Naija News reports that Majekodunmi replaces Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, the pioneer head of the council, who was appointed by the President in June 2024.
The statement described Majekodunmi as a climate finance expert and environmental lawyer with over seventeen years of experience.
Prior to her appointment, Majekodunmi served as the Financial Adviser for the NCCC and is credited for her dedicated service in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international engagements.
The statement noted that the fresh appointment is in line with the commitment of the Tinubu administration to tackling the challenges of climate change.
President Tinubu also appreciated the outgoing Director-General, Dr. Madueke, for her dedicated service and the strong foundation she laid for the Council’s continued growth.
