Indications have emerged that President Bola Tinubu may have postponed his planned departure for a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil from Thursday to Friday.
Naija News reports that the Presidency had earlier announced, in a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, that the President would leave Abuja on Thursday, August 14.
However, sources within the Presidency told our Vanguard that Tinubu was occupied with official matters throughout Thursday. He also received the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the Presidential Villa.
Although there has been no formal confirmation of the date change, the sources said the President “may have decided to begin the two-nation trip on Friday” after a packed day of engagements.
The initial itinerary indicated that Tinubu would make a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before heading to Japan. In Japan, he is expected to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
Naija News reports that the conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will address Africa’s economic growth, improved business climate, private sector investment, and sustainable development.
It will also focus on peace, stability, and human security across the continent.
During his stay, Tinubu will join plenary sessions, meet with Japanese government officials, and engage with chief executives of companies that have investments in Nigeria.
