Poor Governance Driving Coups - Professor Jega Warns

Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Livestock Reforms, Attahiru Jega, has stated that President Bola Tinubu has the capacity to tackle the long-standing farmers-herders crisis plaguing the country.

He insisted that the situation would abate if the incumbent government implemented the right reforms with support from relevant stakeholders.

Naija News reports that Jega stated this at a distinguished personality lecture with the theme: The Political Economy of Livestock Development in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects, at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, on Monday.

Speaking at the event, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) described the increasing clashes between farmers and herders as a product of worsening land pressure, climate change, and poor governance of natural resources, issues that need to be tackled as part of broader livestock sector reforms.

He noted that support from the National Assembly, security agencies, and state actors would be crucial in helping to implement the reforms.

President Tinubu has demonstrated the willingness and capacity to solve this crisis. What is needed now is stakeholder support, especially from the National Assembly, security agencies, and state actors, to implement evidence-based reforms,” he said.
