Tinubu Appoints Late Gov Ajimobi’s Son As SSA On Livestock Development

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Idris Ajimobi, son to former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development (Office of the President).

Naija News reports that the appointment follows the recent inauguration of the Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Reforms and the establishment of a new Ministry of Livestock Development.

In a statement to journalists on Saturday, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, pointed out that the President seeks to harness and develop Nigeria’s agricultural potential, “including the animal husbandry ecosystem, to spur sustainable economic growth, create industries and jobs, and eradicate violent conflicts between farmers and herders over time.

“The President expects efficient coordination and liaison on matters relating to this critical sector.”

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on Tuesday approved the establishment of the Livestock Development Ministry as part of measures to curb the perennial farmers-herders clashes.

It would be recalled that President Tinubu, on 15th September 2023, approved the establishment of the Presidential Committee dedicated to the reform of the livestock industry and the provision of long-term solutions to recurring clashes between herders and farmers in the country.

The establishment of the committee follows the submission of a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria, which was headed by Ganduje.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu urged the committee members to set aside partisan politics and focus on their mandate to improve the lives of Nigerians. He stressed that the committee’s work would be instrumental in transforming the livestock sector, particularly the dairy industry, which is vital for nutrition and food security.
