The home of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi, Anambra State, was enveloped in an unusual silence on Saturday, as people gathered to confirm the tragic news of his death.
Ubah, who represented Anambra South District, passed away in London.
According to NAN, upon arrival at the senator’s residence in Umuanuka, Otolo Village, it was observed that the grand entrance gates of the extensive compound were locked. The area was heavily guarded, reflecting the gravity of the loss.
Inside the compound, groups of staff members were seen discussing the unfortunate news, visibly mourning the loss of their employer and benefactor.
One staff member, a Nnewi youth who requested anonymity, expressed the community’s grief, stating that Ubah was a significant figure for local youths due to his extensive empowerment and philanthropic efforts.
“His death is still a shock to us. He was our pillar,” he lamented.
A motorcycle operator, who identified himself simply as Obinna, described Ubah’s death as a significant blow to the community. He highlighted the security and peace that Nnewi had enjoyed in recent years, attributing it to Ubah’s efforts in employing, equipping, and paying local vigilance operatives.
“He made life comfortable for us in Nnewi. He took our security as a priority,” Obinna said, emphasizing Ubah’s role in maintaining safety in the area.
