Police Nab Suspect In Killing Of Abia University Student

Three officers of the Nigeria Police Force have been reportedly arrested over alleged involvement in the killing of a student at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Naija News understands that Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola was fatally shot on September 4, 2024.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has, in response to the incident, directed the Homicide section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja to conduct a thorough and extensive investigation.

In a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, it was revealed that the officers implicated in the incident have been identified as Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, all of whom are assigned to the Department of Operations at the Kwara State Command.

These officers have since been detained for further investigation.

Adejobi expressed that the Inspector-General of Police “is profoundly saddened” by this tragic incident that resulted in the untimely death of a young Nigerian.

“The IGP expresses his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. He acknowledges the profound grief and loss caused by this unfortunate act and reassures the family and members of the public that Justice will be served,” the statement noted.

Ishola, a student pursuing a National Diploma II in Electrical/Electronics Engineering at the institution, was reportedly killed by the police under mysterious circumstances in the Fate Area of Ilorin, the capital of the state.
