The Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, has reiterated the military’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians go to bed with their two eyes closed.
Naija News reports that Buba made this pledge while addressing journalists at Defence Headquarters, Abuja, during a press briefing on Thursday.
He pledged to dismantle the logistical, military, and administrative capabilities of terrorists causing unrest in the northern region of the country.
According to him, the Nigerian military deployed across various theatres of operations undertook a comprehensive offensive against several terrorist enclaves that have been causing disturbances in the peace of the Northeast, North West, North Central, and other regions across the 36 states of the nation.
The military, as per directives from the high command, will focus its efforts on targeting the leaders, commanders, foot soldiers, and their collaborators, as well as informants who are facilitating their illicit activities.
Buba, a Major-General, clarified that this action is taken to ensure the safety and freedom of movement for the Nigerian populace, allowing them to go about their daily lives without fear or hindrance.
He further stated that the military operations are progressing positively, with many leaders, commanders, foot soldiers, and informants having been neutralized on the battlefield. The focus now shifts to apprehending and neutralizing the remaining members of these terrorist groups.
Buba observed that the military’s forces have persistently maintained their momentum in confronting the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their affiliated armed groups, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in the South East, and that their resolve remains unyielding until they are completely eradicated.
Furthermore, the military’s spokesperson announced that the troops have continued their efforts and will not waver in their fight against the perpetrators of crude oil theft in the South-South region, as mandated by the President, Bola Tinubu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
He also revealed that the military has successfully recovered a variety of weapons and ammunition, including 125 different types of weapons and 1,522 different types of ammunition. Among these, 41 AK47 rifles, one PKT gun, 24 locally manufactured firearms, 28 Danish firearms, one pump-action gun, and 755 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered.
