The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully completed the relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo transmission line, bringing relief to residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This achievement, finalized three days past the original deadline, also marks the full restoration of bulk power supply to the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation, enabling normal electricity distribution in affected areas.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
Earlier, on January 3, 2025, TCN had disclosed that the relocation was necessary due to the Federal Capital Development Authority’s (FCDA) road dualization project along the Apo axis.
The project required dismantling and reconstructing the transmission towers and restringing power cables to ensure the completion of the road works.
The company had initially scheduled a two-week power outage, from January 6 to January 20, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, to facilitate the relocation process.
In its statement, TCN emphasized that the relocation was a critical step in supporting the FCDA’s infrastructure development while assuring residents that power would be restored as soon as the work was complete.
Mbah expressed gratitude to affected customers for their patience during the period, noting that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has now resumed normal power supply to the serviced areas, ending the load rationing previously implemented.
The statement read, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria is pleased to announce the restoration of full bulk power to its 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation, effective Thursday, January 23, 2025.
“This restoration follows the successful relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line (Southern Expressway route), necessitated by the Federal Capital Development Agency’s road dualization project along the Apo axis.
“The two-week relocation work, which commenced on Monday, January 6, 2025, involved dismantling, and reconstructing the towers, as well as restringing power cables.
“With the restoration of full bulk power, Abuja DisCo can now provide normal electricity supply from the substation to its customers in the affected areas, ending the previous load rationing.
“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of the affected electricity consumers during this period.”
