Takehiro Tomiyasu Exits Arsenal, Marcus Rashford Set For Man United Return

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal have officially terminated the contract of their 26-year-old defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu, earlier today, July 4.

Recall that Takehiro Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Italian Serie A club, Bologna in August 2021. Since, then, the Japanese defender has made 84 appearances in all competitions.

A statement from Arsenal said the club “reached a mutual agreement with Takehiro Tomiyasu to end his contract with immediate effect.”

Takehiro Tomiyasu started like a house on fire when he first joined Arsenal. He settled down at the club so well that the right-back won Arsenal’s Player of the Month award in September 2021, winning another in October 2023.

“Unfortunately, injuries have limited Tomi’s time on the pitch in the past two seasons, with the defender making just one substitute appearance last season. It was therefore mutually agreed to end Tomi’s contract for him to start a new chapter in his career”, Arsenal’s statement reads.

“Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to thank Tomi for his contribution to the club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, England international, Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United for pre-season training on Monday, July 7, after spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Recall that coach Ruben Amorim kicked him out of Manchester United in the first half of last season and the crisis between them forced the 27-year-old English striker to join Aston Villa on loan

During his short spell at Villa, Rashford made 17 appearances, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

Despite the impressive performance, Villa didn’t offer him a permanent deal. His price tag is said to be worth £40 million.

Currently, there is no offer on the table for Rashford and sources close to Rashford have said he has no problem with returning to United according to the BBC.
