Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has promised to fulfil the expectations of football enthusiasts in Nigeria at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Madugu is currently in Morocco with the Super Falcons for the WAFCON which will kick off on Saturday, July 5. Nigeria’s opening game at the tournament is against Tunisia on Sunday, July 6 at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

Other teams the Super Falcons will have to battle with in Group B are Algeria and Botswana as they push to unseat the current WAFCON champions, South Africa.

“We appreciate Nigerians for their consistent support for the Super Falcons,” Madugu told the NFF media team.

“They have always shown great confidence in the team and have stood by us in every way possible. On our part, we are doing everything we can to sustain that confidence and we will try as much as possible to meet their expectations.”

Note that the Super Falcons enjoyed a fair ride ahead of the WAFCON. They recorded a draw against Portugal and a win over Ghana in their last two international friendlies before the competition.

Madugu and his team are expected to maintain the momentum when the tournament kicks off as they aim to claim a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

“Let them just continue to trust and support the team, pray for the team and wish the team well,” the coach said.

He added, “I am not under pressure. There will be stories and distractions, but we are staying focused on what lies ahead.”

“We know our target. We are going for the trophy, that’s what doing well means for us. It is mission ‘X’ for every one of us.”
