Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has described the comparison of his situation at Old Trafford with that of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as a joke.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s much-anticipated Manchester Derby, Amorim admitted he is under greater scrutiny than the Spaniard despite both sides struggling for form in the Premier League.
Naija News reports that the Red Devils are currently ninth on the table, while City sit in 13th after suffering back-to-back league defeats.
However, Amorim believes the pressure on him is far greater, as Guardiola’s past achievements at the Etihad Stadium provide him with a cushion.
The Portuguese coach made his feelings clear when asked in a pre-match interview to compare his situation with Guardiola’s.
“No, you cannot compare,” Amorim said.
“The guy is winning all the time. He can relax if he’s not winning anymore.
“I have to prove myself every day here and I feel that. So I’m really comfortable with that and I think that every day that I come here, that I have to do better.
“To compare me with the situation of Guardiola is just a joke. I think we have bigger problems.”
Naija News reports that the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford promises to be another intense battle as both teams look to recover from stuttering starts to the season.
For Amorim, victory on Sunday would ease growing pressure and offer United fans a statement performance.
However, for Guardiola, it represents a chance to halt City’s slide and reassert their dominance in the league.
