Former Kaduna central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has reacted to the portfolio assigned to ministerial appointees by President Bola Tinubu.
Naija News reported earlier that the President in Wednesday, released a ministerial portfolio for nominees confirmed by the Senate a few days ago.
The Nigerian leader appointed former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike as the FCT Minister. Tinubu also appointed former Governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Badaru, as Minister of Defence while the immediate past governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mattawale, was appointed Minister of State, Defense.
Reacting, however, to the development via his Twitter page, Senator Sani said the Defence Minister ought to have been someone from a military background.
The former lawmaker opined that the position should have been given to a retired military officer with experience and records of accomplishments.
He tweeted: “In view of the security challenges faced by this country,I thought the Defence Minister should be a retired Military officer with experience and records of accomplishments. That office shouldn’t be just political especially at this time.”
Reno Omokri Reacts To Wike’s Appointment As FCT Minister
Meanwhile, former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri has reacted to the emergence of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Naija News reports that the full list of the ministerial portfolios under the Tinubu government was released on Wednesday evening and Wike was listed as the FCT Minister.
Omokri in his reaction noted that it is the first time a Southerner has been appointed FCT Minister since Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun was appointed to that position in 1976 by the then Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo.
He however said there had been expectations that President Tinubu would appoint an FCT indigene, Zephaniah Jisalo who was also on the ministerial list but that didn’t happen.
Taking to his Twitter account shortly after the list was released, Omokri tweeted: “The appointment by President Bola Tinubu of ex-Governor Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory will mark the first time a Southerner has been appointed FCT Minister since Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun was appointed to that position in 1976 by the then Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo.
“It has taken forty-seven years for a non-Northerner to occupy that position again And coincidentally, just like in 1976, the person was appointed by a fellow Southerner.
“Sadly, the original indigenes of the area now known as the Federal Capital Territory have never been appointed minister. Hopes had been high that the President would appoint the first FCT indigene ever nominated as a minister, Zephaniah Jisalo, to that position. But we have seen the way the cookie crumbled.”
