Several Injured, Properties Destroyed As Gas Explosion Rocks Anambra

Several people have been reported injured and properties destroyed in an explosion at a gas station located around Akwa Road in Onitsha, Anambra State.

It was learned that the tragic incident occurred around 7.30pm on Sunday evening, leaving residents of the area to scamper for safety.

A mechanic workshop and a filling station close to the scene of the incident were affected by the explosion.

According to reports, firefighters were able to contain the explosion and save other business close to the gas station.

Meanwhile, no less than sixteen people have lost their lives in Bauchi State after a Toyota Hummer bus ran into an articulated truck and burst into flames.

The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Yusuf Abdullahi, disclosed that the accident happened in Bambal village on Kano-Jama’are Road at about 7:00 pm on Sunday.

He further stated that it took the personnel of the FRSC about seven minutes to arrive at the scene of the incident.

Abdullahi attributed the accident which led to the loss of life of all the passengers to speed violation.

According to the FRSC sector commander, the corpses have been deposited in the morgue of Kiyawa General Hospital on Kano-Jama’are road for identification.

He called on motorists to always be conscious of traffic rules and regulations while plying the roads.
