Super Eagles star, Samuel Chukwueze, netted a late goal on Sunday to secure a crucial win for AC Milan in their clash against Parma in Serie A.
Naija News reports that the Nigerian player transformed AC Milan’s jeers into cheers during stoppage time, helping them secure a remarkable 3-2 victory over the visiting team.
As the match approached added time, Milan found themselves trailing to what appeared to be Enrico Delprato’s decisive goal for Parma.
However, they rallied back with goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Samuel Chukwueze, igniting a wave of jubilation among previously frustrated supporters.
With this victory, AC Milan ascends to sixth place, now five points behind Lazio, who occupy the fourth position and are set to face an out-of-form Fiorentina in the late match on Sunday.
Chukwueze’s scrappy finish significantly altered the mood at the San Siro, providing a vital boost for Sergio Conceicao’s squad as they prepare for a crucial week ahead.
Milan is scheduled to visit Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, aiming for direct qualification to the Champions League’s last 16, followed by a local derby against Inter Milan next weekend.
Fans’ Discontent was palpable in the 80th minute when Delprato scored from a rebound after Mike Maignan made an impressive save against Drissa Camara.
Supporters directed their frustrations towards the directors’ box, ironically applauding the management, as the club’s hardcore ultras remained largely silent throughout the match, only voicing their demand for American owners RedBird to sell the club.
The loudest cheers from the home crowd prior to Reijnders’ equalizer in the 91st minute, which he scored from a well-placed through ball by Yunus Musah, came just moments after Strahinja Pavlovic had a goal disallowed for offside, which he believed to be the equalizer.
Unfortunately for Parma, despite their commendable performance, they left empty-handed, remaining just a point above the relegation zone.
“I think we showed the right mentality, fighting to the end, and the way we changed this game is crazy,” said Netherlands midfielder Reijnders after his 11th goal of the season.
“This game was important for us to get back where we belong. Now, we have to continue.”
On his part, Parma’s manager, Fabio Pecchia said: “When you play like that at the San Siro and you leave with a defeat, there’s going to be disappointment but there’s also awareness of what we did because I saw a lot of good stuff today.
“A performance like that can only serve us well for the future.”
