The Senator representing Imo North District, Engr. Patrick Ndubueze, who serves as the Committee Chairman for Steel Development, has within the week advocated for merging of Agencies and Parastatals of Government having similar mandates. This view was supported by Senator Adams Oshomole, who strongly argued that there was too many duplication of agencies and responsibilities leading to high cost of Governance and conflicting operations.
Senator Ndubueze earlier at an Appropriation hearing of the Senate Committee on Special Duties had stated that much resources can be conserved and channelled to other areas of need, by merging agencies sharing overlapping mandates.
Both Senators, sitting side by side, at the Appropriation Hearing on Diaspora Commission yesterday, stressed that some agencies need to be scrapped completely while some should be merged to reduce huge cost and avoid conflicting functions.
Sen. Oshomole openly insisted on scrapping of the Diaspora Commission of Nigeria.
