Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has publicly rebuked a fan account on 𝕏 for mocking two of his former teammates, insisting that new signings should be celebrated without belittling those who have left.
The incident unfolded after @AnfieldEdition, a popular independent fan account with over 500,000 followers, posted a black-and-white collage of Darwin Núñez and Luis DĂaz alongside coloured photos of Liverpool’s record-breaking summer signings, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. The caption read: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”
Salah took to the comment section and wrote, “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
Liverpool’s summer transfer window was nothing short of historic. The Premier League champions smashed records by landing Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m before breaking the British transfer record with Isak’s £125m move from Newcastle on deadline day.
Alongside the headline deals, the club also brought in Hugo Ekitike (£79m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m) as part of a squad rebuild. In total, Liverpool spent £446m, eclipsing Chelsea’s £434.5m outlay in 2023, while generating £228.1 million in player sales.
Departures included Núñez, who joined Al-Hilal for €53m after three mixed seasons at Anfield, and DĂaz, who sealed a ÂŁ65.5m switch to Bayern Munich. Both players played pivotal roles in Liverpool’s title-winning side last season under Arne Slot.
