Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has insisted that the penalty shootout, which saw his team stunned out of the Carabao Cup by League Two minnows Grimsby Town, was far less important than the signs shown during the game.
Naija News reports that after a 2-2 draw in regulation time on Wednesday night, August 27, a tense 26-penalty shootout saw the Mariners advance to the next round. But Ruben Amorim appeared unfazed by the dramatic finish.
“The penalty shootout is not important,” he said. “If I’m there trying to see if we win the game… it doesn’t matter. The signs, the beginning of the game, during the game, that is what matters.”
Amorim also defended goalkeeper Andre Onana, who had a difficult night, conceding Charles Vernam’s opener and misjudging a corner that allowed Tyrell Warren to double Grimsby’s lead.
