Ralph Nwosu: INEC’s Move Against ADC Leadership Is Illegal, Scandalous

Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has condemned the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to alter the party’s leadership records, describing the move as illegal, illegitimate and scandalous.

INEC had struck out the names of David Mark and Nwosu from its records as National Chairman and National Secretary respectively, while also suspending recognition of conventions and congresses organised by their faction pending a court ruling.

Speaking on ARISE News, Nwosu argued that the decision undermines both the integrity of the party and Nigeria’s democratic process, insisting that INEC had previously monitored and validated the processes that produced the current leadership.

He explained that multiple meetings were held over several months before the leadership was finalised on July 29, adding that the commission’s reversal following a legal challenge months later was unjustifiable.

Nwosu said the ADC would convene a world press conference to present documentary evidence, including certified records endorsed by INEC, to counter what he described as inconsistencies in the commission’s actions.

He accused INEC of attempting to destabilise the party, warning that the move would be challenged through legal means to restore order and protect party members.

Dismissing claims of factionalisation within the party, Nwosu maintained that the ADC remains united and committed to participating fully in upcoming elections.

He further alleged external interference aimed at manipulating party structures for political advantage but expressed confidence that such efforts would fail.

Nwosu also stressed that the timing of INEC’s intervention had exposed underlying political pressures, adding that the judiciary would ultimately determine the legality of the commission’s actions.

Despite the crisis, he affirmed that ADC candidates would continue their campaigns, noting that the party remains focused on building a credible political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
