Benjamin Kalu Reacts To Tribunal Ruling On His Election

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has said the planned nationwide protests slated for August 1 to August 10, 2024, will not only do Nigeria a disservice but Africa.

Naija News reports that Kalu stated this while fielding questions on Arise Television’s News programme.

Kalu said Nigeria cannot copy the footsteps of ‘smaller countries’ like Kenya because the #EndBadGovernace will be emulated across Africa if not discouraged.

He further urged protest organisers to give President Bola Tinubu time to correct the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said: “Nigeria cannot be seen to be copying the footsteps of ‘smaller countries’ like Kenya. We play the big brother role in Africa, this protest will be emulated across Africa if not discouraged. President Tinubu is only asking for patience to correct the 16 years of PDP rule in Nigeria.”

Do Not Join Nationwide Protests

Meanwhile, Kalu on Wednesday, urged the people of the southeast to avoid the planned nationwide strike.

This request comes after President Bola Tinubu signed the South East Development Commission bill into law.

The lawmaker asserted that the president has shown his willingness to heal the wounds of the past, as the newly signed bill will tackle ecological problems and other related environmental or developmental challenges in the south-east states, and address infrastructural damages suffered by the zone as a result of the civil war.
