Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has attributed his victory in the September 2024 governorship election to divine intervention, emphasizing that his mandate is God-ordained to bring progress and prosperity to Edo State.
The Governor made this declaration during a Sunday service at Streams of Joy International, Abuja.
Addressing the congregation, he expressed profound gratitude to God for his electoral success and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the prayers and aspirations of the people of Edo State.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo described his emergence as a testament to God’s plan, asserting that his victory represents an answer to the collective prayers of Edo citizens for transformative leadership and sustainable development.
Governor Okpebholo also extended his heartfelt thanks to the convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD) and Lead Pastor of Streams of Joy International, Pastor Jerry Eze, for his spiritual guidance and unwavering support during the elections.
He pledged to be a faithful ambassador of the church by spearheading unprecedented economic growth and infrastructure development in Edo State.
Reflecting on his journey, he remarked: “I have come to return all the glory to God for the electoral victory He gave to me during the last election. In 2023, I was here to testify as a senator. Today, I am here again to testify as a Governor. When I wanted to join the race for the primaries, I came here, and I told Pastor my intention. He prayed for me and asked me to go and contest.
“I did, and although the journey was tough, I emerged victorious, and today, I am the Governor of Edo State. I see my becoming a Governor as a divine mandate to serve and bring development to the people. And I am here today to assure you, my brethren, that I will not disappoint the God of NSPPD.”
Governor Okpebholo urged worshippers to remain steadfast in their faith, emphasizing that power comes solely from God and should be viewed as an opportunity to serve with humility and purpose.
He reiterated his unwavering dedication to utilizing his God-given mandate to uplift the lives of Edo citizens.
Often described as “a man of uncommon grace,” Governor Okpebholo began his political journey in the early 2020s.
He rose to prominence after defeating the incumbent senator in Edo Central Senatorial District, breaking the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 24-year dominance in the region during his first attempt.
On September 21, 2024, Governor Okpebholo once again disrupted PDP’s stronghold by defeating the ruling party’s candidate to become the Governor of Edo State.
