The Lagos State Police Command has condemned the action of a driver spotted in a viral video where a female officer was begging for help.
The unidentified police officer was dragging the steering wheel with the driver as he tries to drive her off to an unknown destination.
The video has generated reactions online as Nigerians wondered how the police operative got into the car and the intention of the driver.
The female police officer in the viral was heard begging the driver to let her out of the car.
She said, “Help me, they are carrying me to where I don’t know.”
Spokesman of the Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, while reacting to the viral video, said irrespective of the unprofessional conduct of the officer, kidnapping an officer on duty is a felony.
According to Hundeyin, an investigation has begun into the incident, adding that the driver is a suspect.
Hundeyin in a post on Twitter wrote, “Irrespective, I repeat, irrespective of whatever the police officer must have done (un)professionally, kidnapping anyone, especially a law enforcement officer on duty, is a felony.
“This man is already a suspect. An investigation has commenced.”
