Lagos State Police on Wednesday arrested a 65-year-old man who claimed to be the “Obi of Lagos” along with three accomplices.

Naija News reports that the police also stopped a planned unveiling of a supposed palace.

According to The Nation, the suspect, Engr. Chibuike Azubike from Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Imo State, was detained with Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57; Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65; and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41.

Police said intelligence reports indicated that the group had arranged to present a ₦1.5 billion prototype of the “Obi of Lagos State” palace at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin, on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Acting on the information, officers sealed off the venue to prevent the event.

To maintain order, the Command deployed conventional police officers, members of the Eko Strike Force, and other tactical units to the location.

The suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue, and authorities confirmed that they would face court charges.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned the public to be cautious of impostors exploiting traditional titles for personal gain.

He added that such acts are illegal under Lagos State laws and can disrupt public peace.

The police vowed to act firmly against anyone attempting to undermine law, order, and the state’s integrity.
