Accept Your Tenure Has Ended, Don't Disrupt The Peace In Rivers State - PDP Tells Ex-LG Chairmen

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as the winner of all 21 council seats in the just-concluded Local Government (LG) election in Adamawa State.

Naija News reports that the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Mohammed Umar, made this known in the results released on Sunday evening at the commission’s headquarters in Yola, the state capital.

Umar said the ruling PDP also won all the councillorship seats in the 226 wards in the North-East state except the Demsa Ward of the Demsa Local Government Area, where the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) won one councillorship seat.

He added that out of the 19 registered political parties in the state, 12 participated in the exercise.

Adamawa Govt Sues FG Over Federation Account Deductions

Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Government has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government at the Supreme Court, challenging deductions from the Federation Account.
The state is seeking an interpretation of Section 162 (1), (2), and (3) of the Constitution concerning the distribution of revenue.

In a statement released Wednesday by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the government asserted, “The entire sum in the Federation Account must be distributed among all levels of government without deductions, except as permitted by law.

The state government emphasized the President’s obligation to adhere strictly to the Constitution in revenue management and distribution, insisting that “all revenue collected, except those exempted by the Constitution, must be paid into the Federation Account for distribution to all tiers of government.”

Adamawa is seeking a Supreme Court declaration that any deductions or withholdings made without constitutional backing be deemed unconstitutional.
