The Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Timothy Osadolor, has cautioned against reducing the 2027 presidential contest to a three-way race between President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi.
In an interview with Punch, Osadolor described such a narrow framing as unjust to the millions of qualified Nigerians capable of leading the country.
He said, “Limiting a country of over 240 million people to just names on a list of less than 10, which the Waziri of Adamawa (Atiku) happens to be one of, is a disservice to over 240 million Nigerians and over 10 million eligible to be President.”
He emphasised that leadership is not the preserve of a select few and argued that the PDP and other parties should look beyond past presidential candidates when selecting their 2027 flagbearers.
Osadolor further stated, “There is nobody who was created or given birth to and handed the staff of office of President by the Israelis.
“The truth is this: narrowing the PDP ticket or any ticket to only Atiku, Obi, or Tinubu is a disservice. There are other people within the PDP who have track records of service.”
Osadolor hinted that the PDP is still awaiting a decision from former President, Goodluck Jonathan, while highlighting other capable southern leaders who could vie for the presidency.
“We have people like Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom, who transformed the landscape of the state. We have Governor Seyi Makinde, who has turned Oyo from an ancient sleeping kingdom into a fast-growing industrial state,” he said.
He added that the party “is not going to run out of options,” noting that several respected individuals were still considering joining the race.
“Goodluck Jonathan is there too. There are people like him within the party. It’s just a matter of decision-making and conviction to throw their hat in the ring,” Osadolor stated.
The PDP chieftain further declared that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket will likely be zoned to the South, based on prevailing sentiments and internal signals.
“The last time, it was thrown open. But the voices are now audible and clearer to most of us, it is going to the South this time around,” he said.
