PDP BoT Member, Adamu Waziri Dumps Party, Joins ADC

A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of its Board of Trustees, Adamu Waziri, on Monday, announced his resignation from the party, citing national interest and a desire to reinvigorate Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Naija News reports that Waziri, who made the announcement at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking to party members and supporters at the ward centre, Waziri said his decision to quit PDP was not taken lightly, but was necessary due to what he called the “exigencies of the moment” and the need to reposition the country on the path of true democratic governance.

He said, “I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign.”

He explained that the PDP constitution mandates formal withdrawal at the ward level, hence his visit to the Dogo Tebo Centre. “The PDP constitution demands that I come to my ward centre to formalise this action,” he noted.

Describing the step as “difficult but necessary,” Waziri accused the PDP’s current leadership of drifting away from the ideals of a credible opposition party.

Waziri, who played a key role in the formation of PDP in 1998, said he could no longer reconcile with the party’s direction, and urged his political associates, whom he called “my boys,” to follow him to the ADC in a bid to reshape Nigeria’s political future.

“We must build a movement that restores democratic values and delivers good governance. It’s time to try something different for the sake of the country,” he said.

In a dramatic twist, the PDP Ward Chairman, represented by Muhammad Bomai, announced his own resignation from the party moments after accepting Waziri’s defection.

“On behalf of the party, we accept his resignation with a heavy heart. Waziri has been an institution within the PDP, and we will feel his absence deeply,” Bomai said while handing over Waziri’s returned membership card.
