Arsenal’s chances of clinching the Premier League title this season are hanging in the balance, according to the club’s former player, Paul Merson.
Paul Merson emphasized the pivotal nature of the team’s upcoming fixtures, which will see them lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur and reigning champions Manchester City in consecutive Premier League games following the international break.
In his analysis for Sky Sports, Merson stressed the significance of Arsenal securing a minimum of four points from these two critical matches.
He said, “Arsenal’s Premier League campaign will ultimately hinge on the outcomes of the next two fixtures against Tottenham and Man City. They need to come away with four points. It’s that straightforward.”
Merson went on to warn, “Should they fall short of this target, concerns will inevitably surface as they would find themselves playing catch-up against the formidable force of Manchester City.”
Arsenal currently occupy the third spot on the league table, trailing City and Liverpool by a margin of two points.
Coach Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will face Tottenham Hotspur at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.
After that, the Gunners will travel to Italy to take on Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League on September 19.
They will then return to England to take on Manchester City in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on September 22.
