The Oyo State Government has given the green light to host Nigeria’s U-20 women’s football team, the Falconets, in Ibadan ahead of their crucial FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Rwanda.
Naija News reports that the return-leg fixture is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
The decision was announced after Tuesday’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Acting Governor Bayo Lawal at the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.
Briefing journalists, the Commissioner for Works, Abdulmojeed Mogbojubola, revealed that ₦110 million had been approved to cover logistics, accommodation, feeding, security, and other related expenses during the Falconets’ stay in the state.
He explained that hosting the national team would attract national attention to Ibadan, reinforcing its status as a hub for major sporting events.
Mogbojubola noted that the government’s support for the Falconets was part of a broader strategy to promote sports development and youth empowerment across the state.
“Hosting the team not only boosts morale but also inspires local athletes and young football talents within the state to aspire to international standards,” he said.
He added that the initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s Roadmap for Sustainable Development (2023–2027), which prioritises investments in youth-focused and sports-related programmes.
The commissioner expressed optimism about the Falconets’ chances of success and called on residents of Ibadan and sports lovers across Oyo State to rally behind the team.
“We are confident the Falconets will make Nigeria proud. We urge the people of Ibadan to come out in large numbers to cheer them on,” Mogbojubola added.
