The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State has announced a new date for the screening of Governorship aspirants ahead of the party primary elections.
Naija News understands that the nation’s opposition party had earlier scheduled Tuesday, January 11 for screening of governorship aspirants in the state.
However, PDP in a statement issued on Saturday (today), noted that the screening will now be held on Wednesday, January 12.
Confirming the new date, the party National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature said the venue for the screening remained the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja at 10 a.m.
The party leadership apologized for any inconveniences the development might have caused.
“All aspirants, leaders, critical stakeholders and members in Osun State should take note and by this, guided accordingly”, Bature added.
Meanwhile, PDP has in another development described reports that it had already zoned its 2023 presidential ticket to a particular region as misleading.
The party in a statement on Saturday made available to Naija News said the individuals making declarations about the zoning of the PDP presidential ticket are not speaking on behalf of the party.
The PDP statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba urged members of the party and the general public to disregard the trending report that it had zoned its presidential ticket.
This online news platform reports that the denial follows an earlier claim credited to a former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu who spoke on Friday while playing host to the Atiku Support Organisation in Minna that the 2023 PDP presidential ticket has been zoned to the North.
But in response, the PDP spokesperson while confirming that the party believes in zoning, denied that a conclusion has been reached on the matter, adding that consultations are still ongoing.
The statement titled: “2023: We Have Not Zoned Our Presidential Ticket -PDP” reads: “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to comments and speculations from certain individuals claiming that our Party has zoned its Presidential ticket to a particular part of the country.
“This is completely misleading as it does not in any way represent the position of our Party.
For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP emphatically and unequivocally states that it has not zoned its Presidential ticket to any part of the country.
The statement read: “The PDP is a political party founded on democratic principles and every action of the Party, including zoning, is based on extensive consultations, discussions and consideration of all the issues as well as the various tendencies and interests across the nation, with the main objective of ensuring that the unity, peaceful co-existence and development of our nation are reinforced and promoted.
“The PDP, therefore, urges Nigerians, our teeming members and supporters to completely disregard the unfounded zoning claims as being peddled. Our Party also cautions those behind the claims to desist forthwith.
“The PDP thanks Nigerians across board for the overwhelming interest they have in our Party as their sure platform to Rescue and Rebuild our nation from misrule and urges them to remain united and focused as we join forces for the task ahead.”
