The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has said he is not running a perfect government that cannot be criticized.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti on Public Communication, Dodoh Okafor, said this on Monday, following reactions generated by a statement from World Trade Organization Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Naija News reported, on Sunday, that Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala threatened to take legal action against the publisher of a blog that misquoted her lecture at the last Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Annual Conference.
The blog post claimed Okonjo-Iweala during her lecture during the NBA lecture accused Governor Otti of running the state through propaganda.
Reacting, the WTO DG regretted that politicians were using her name to push propaganda against Otti. Her statement on her X handle on Sunday generated reactions from some Nigerians.
In a statement, Okafor said the Abia State Governor welcomes criticism. He advised critics of the state government to base their criticism on right information.
“Governor Alex Otti has never claimed he is running a perfect government. He acknowledges that there are several areas where improvements can still be made, even as the applause continues to mount, especially from nonpartisan observers.
“Even then, anyone seeking to criticize him must endeavour to at least, arm themselves with the right information. Not hearsay, or discredited authors,” Okafor said.
