Officer Injured As Gunmen Attack Akwa Ibom Police Station

A police officer has been injured following an attack by gunmen on a divisional station in Udung Uko Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

A statement released by the spokesman of the Akwa Ibom police command, Odiko MacDon, on Sunday, said the officer was injured in an attempt to repel the attack on Saturday evening.

MacDon added that the police officer was one of those on duty at the station when some unknown gunmen arrived in a Sienna Toyota vehicle and opened fire on the station.

The Police PRO said the situation would have been worse if not for the policemen on duty who repelled the attack.

He, however, revealed that the officer who sustained the injury is receiving treatment.

“I can only confirm that one of our personnel sustained injuries during the attack.

“But we believe the gunmen fled with gunshot wounds. The shooting was sporadic,” he said.
