NPFL Announce Kick-off Date For 2025/26 Season

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs are making final preparations for the 2025/2026 campaign with new player signings and backroom appointments confirmed across the country.

Newly-promoted NPFL side, Barau FC, have signed goalkeeper Yusuf Muhammed Bala from Niger Tornadoes on a two-year contract, alongside midfielders Sunday Anthony from Plateau United and Abraham Nana Kwame from GNN of the Niger Republic, both on one-year deals.

Ladan Bosso’s side will face Enyimba in their opening match on August 22.

In Oyo state, Shooting Stars of Ibadan have unveiled a nine-man technical and backroom team ahead of the new season.

Akin Olowokere, Ayeoba Gabriel, and Shakiru Lawal will be assistant coaches, while Gopar Cornelius is the goalkeeper trainer and Grace Towobola is the strength and conditioning coach.

Tammy Tamuno has been named team manager, Habeeb Opeyemi the psychologist, Jesse Afuye the match analyst, and Lawrence Adedeji the coaching officer.

All will work under technical adviser Nurudeen Aweroro, with the club set to face Bayelsa United in their first fixture.

As for the Port Harcourt-based side, Rivers United, agreed to sign Omaka Anthony from Heartland following the Naze Millionaires’ relegation to the Nigeria National League.

The 29-year-old midfielder is expected to be unveiled before the season kicks off on August 22.

In Edo state, Bendel Insurance have completed the signing of midfielder Austin Osayande from Rivers United.

The club announced, “The creative spark returns, rising from the heart of Rivers United’s midfield to the soul of Benin City. The son of the soil is back.”

Osayande made two appearances for Rivers United last season. Bendel Insurance have also signed Israel Emmanuel.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars have re-signed striker Victor Mbaoma on a two-year deal. The 28-year-old returns for his third spell at the club, having previously played in Algeria, Uzbekistan, and Rwanda.
