The Northern Governors Forum (NGF) has condemned the killing of Ahmed Gulak, a former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Naija News had reported how Gulak was killed in the early hours of Sunday shortly after he left his hotel and was said to heading to the Sam Mbakwe airport to connect with a flight back to his destination.
According to a statement on Sunday released by the Imo Police Command, unknown gunmen intercepted his car and shot the APC chieftain who was heading for the airport in a taxi.
According to the police, Gulak left his hotel without any security detail in spite of the insecurity in the state.
But in a statement on behalf of northern governors, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau, Simon Lalong, warned the public against politicising issues surrounding the murder which could lead to further violence.
The forum described the incident as unfortunate and a criminal act that must be condemned.
The governors said the report by the police “indicates that they have identified and engaged the suspected killers of Gulak, and should further be consolidated upon to enable security agencies to forestall future occurrences”.
The forum also condemned the abduction of schoolchildren by bandits from Salihu Tanko Islamic School in Rafi LGA of Niger state.
Lalong reiterated the commitment of the forum in working with security agencies and the federal government in tackling the “ugly level of insecurity in the region and the nation at large”.
