President Bola Tinubu-led government, on Wednesday met with organized labour in Abuja at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The meeting had in attendance Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA); Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Labour Minister; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Others are Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Information Minister; Heineken Lokpobiri, Petroleum Minister, State; Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), representatives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Limited and leaders of organised labour union.
Naija News learnt that labour leaders during the meeting insisted on the reduction of fuel prices.
A source privy to the meeting, who spoke with Punch on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said the government and labour could not reach a common ground on the matter.
The source, who disclosed that the Federal Government resolved to meet labour leaders again, said, “At the meeting, the NLC expressed their disapproval of the price hike and held their ground that it must be reversed. The government team tried to convince them to reason with them, but they could not reach a common ground on the matter. They resolved to meet again.”
