The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has fully accepted the ₦70,000 new minimum wage as proposed by the federal government during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.
The final position of the NLC was made known in a communique issued on Friday at the end of its emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The communique, signed by the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, said the NEC-in-session, after extensive delibrations, unanimously accepted the President’s ₦70,000 new minimum wage offer and the three-year review of the figure.
The statement also commended the efforts and leadership of the congress and the way it handled negotiations leading to the new minimum wage as announced.
The NEC further demanded the full and strict implementation of the National Minimum Wage 2024 when it eventually becomes an act.
The NLC explained that though the eventual figure is far lower than the initial demand of the union, it had to accept the offer to avert a threatened further hike in the price of petrol which would inflict further hardship on the already suffering Nigerians.
The NLC thereafter reiterated its commitment to defending the rights of the Nigerian worker and Nigerian people at all times.

The President is expected to forward a bill to the National Assembly for the lawmakers to ratify the figure.
