Just In: Nigerian Soldier Allegedly Beats Phone Repairer To Death Over Girlfriend’s Phone In Adamawa

A Nigerian soldier whose identity is confirmed as Lance Corporal Ahmada A. allegedly beat to death a young mobile phone repairer, Alkasum Ibrahim, in Mayo-Belwa, in Adamawa State, over a delayed mobile phone repair for his girlfriend.

According to SaharaReporters, eyewitnesses who confirmed the tragic incident, which stirred outrage, recounted that Alkasum’s only error was being unable to finish the repair in time, possibly due to technical issues or a busy schedule.

Naija News learnt that the soldier’s girlfriend contacted him in anger, and the security personnel stormed into Alkasum’s workshop.

“The boy was just hustling, trying to make ends meet. His only ‘crime’ was not fixing a phone on time. And now, he’s dead,” said Nuruddeen Abubakar, who reportedly witnessed the brutal assault.

According to him, Alkasum collapsed unconscious and died shortly after, leaving the community in shock.

Following the incident, Ahmada disappeared from the scene, compounding the anger and grief felt by Alkasum’s family and neighbours.

“How can someone trained to protect life become a killer over a mobile phone? This is lawlessness of the highest order,” said a local youth leader in a statement to SaharaReporters.

Police Await Military Handover

Naija News understands that the Adamawa State Police Command has opened an investigation, but says it is subject to the military’s internal process.

Confirming the development, Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje said: “We have been informed of the case. The military authorities are currently conducting an internal investigation and are expected to hand over the suspect for further police action.”

Alkasum’s family, backed by rights advocates and community members, is now calling for justice and swift action.
