The PUNCH: Soldiers, policemen and other security personnel on Tuesday occupied the popular Eagle Square, Abuja, venue of the #EndBadGovernance protest scheduled to be held in the Federal Capital Territory and other major cities on Thursday. Our correspondents at the square counted over 300 security operatives at the facility. Also, 26 military vans, 12 police patrol vehicles and a Black Maria were parked within and around the arena.
Vanguard: Organisers of the nationwide protest against hardship have listed points of convergence for public meetings, rallies and processions across the country. But a Lagos High Court has restricted protesters in Lagos taking part in the proposed August 1 nationwide protest to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota and Peace Park, Ketu area of the state.
The Nation: Should the organisers of the planned protest insist on going ahead with it in Lagos, they must restrict themselves to two locations — Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, and Peace Park, Ketu — a High Court ruled yesterday. Justice Emmanuel Ogundare of the Lagos High Court issued the restriction following a pre-emptive ex-parte application filed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN).
Daily Trust: The organisers of the planned #EndBadGovernance protest scheduled to start from Thursday, August 1, have insisted on taking to the streets across Nigeria after rejecting a proposal by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun for confined protests. At a meeting with the organisers yesterday, the IGP suggested confined protests in identified locations and advised against street rallies.
