Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has shared her thoughts on the challenges she faces as an artiste.
Naija News reports that Somebody’s Son crooner described the music industry as a tough space that often feels overwhelming.
The singer spoke about her experiences during a live session with fans, where she revealed that many people doubted the success of her new album because it did not feature international stars or club-focused songs.
She explained that despite such criticism, she remains committed to creating music that represents her true artistry.
According to her, she has learned to rely on her faith, her team, and the support of her fans to keep moving forward.
Tiwa Savage also said that she does not believe success in music depends on big collaborations or popular endorsements, stressing that she is more focused on working with the right people who believe in her vision.
The singer said the journey of producing her new project took over two years, filled with doubts, obstacles, and discouragement from those who felt her style of music would not connect with listeners.
Despite these struggles, she expressed gratitude for staying grounded and affirmed her determination to continue making music that feels personal and meaningful to her.
She said: “My Alpha and Omega, this industry is filled with so much darkness. I wish you guys knew So much but I Thank God that I’ve just kept my eyes on him. I haven’t fallen When I put out the track list, I saw so many people saying ah She doesn’t have this person she’s not featuring that person she doesn’t have Big names from America.
“She doesn’t have this. She doesn’t have A-listers And they’ve just automatically concluded that because I don’t have that on the album It’s not gonna be good Like wow, I Wish people understood music the way I understand music Yeah, I don’t have Huge cosigns, I don’t and I wasn’t actively seeking huge cosigns All I have is all I have, isn’t it? All I have is all I have All I have is all I have and that’s me the people who are willing to work with me and the music It’s two minutes to go Thank you. Honestly having you guys is enough for me Yeah, I do believe that even with You know, sometimes they say you don’t need a lot of people you just need the right people you don’t I don’t need millions of fans. I just need the right ones.
“I Just need the right ones and I have the right ones It took two years two years over two years And it’s out so many people are There was so many hurdles I wish I could tell you guys the fights the The challenges the people who doubted Who said Me doing this type of vulnerable record that nobody’s going to listen to it.
“Nobody cares people just want to hear Gbedu People just want to hear Banger people just want to hear club records. You don’t have any club records This thing is not going to work. People are not going to stream it.
“People don’t care Thank you, thank you and it’s midnight It’s out Jesus it’s out. Thank you God. Thank you My alpha and omega this industry is filled with so much darkness, I wish you guys knew So much but I Thank God that I’ve just kept my eyes on him. I haven’t fallen.”
