Nigeria Women Football League: Edo Queens To Start Title Defence Today

Edo Queens

Reigning champions, Edo Queens are set to kick off the 2024-2025 Nigeria Women Football League by hosting Abia Angels at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City later today, January 15.

The new season starts with an exciting lineup of eight matches spread across two groups.

Recall that Edo Queens achieved great success last May, securing their first league title by topping the Super 6 tournament in Bayelsa.

Their journey also led them to the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco, where they showcased their talent by finishing in fourth place.

As they embark on this new season, coach Moses Aduku’s squad faces fresh challenges and opportunities in Group A, with aspirations to not only dominate their group but also prepare for potential high-stakes matches against former champions Rivers Angels and Delta Queens.

In Group A matchups, Remo Stars Ladies will commence their season in Lokoja against Confluence Queens, while Nasarawa Amazons will host Dannaz Ladies. Additionally, Ekiti Queens will clash with Heartland Queens at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti.

Group B action features an intriguing matchup between former champions Bayelsa Queens and Delta Queens in Yenagoa. Benue Queens, previously known as Honey Badgers, will take on FC Robo from Lagos, while Adamawa Queens will go head-to-head with Abuja-based Naija Ratels.

The final match in Group B will see seven-time champions Rivers Angels face Ibom Angels.
