Brazilian football star Neymar could soon become even richer after reports emerged that an anonymous billionaire has left him a staggering £846 million inheritance.
Local outlet RIC reported that the businessman, who recently passed away, formalised his will in Porto Alegre on June 12, 2025, in the presence of witnesses and a substitute notary. The document is now with the Brazilian courts, which must decide whether Neymar can legally be recognised as the sole heir.
Remarkably, the two men never met. According to reports, the billionaire was single, childless, and said to have admired Neymar for his family values, particularly his close bond with his father, Neymar Sr.
“I like Neymar, I identify with him a lot,” the will reportedly read. “He’s not self-serving, something rare these days. His connection with his father reminds me a lot of the one I had with mine, who has passed away.”
The inheritance, estimated at around 6.2 billion Brazilian Real (£846m), is said to include property, investments, and company shares. However, even if the courts approve the will, legal experts suggest the process could still face delays, taxes, or disputes.
Neymar, who already ranks among the world’s wealthiest athletes, has not commented on the reports. According to Forbes, the 33-year-old forward earned £90.7m in 2024 during his spell at Al-Hilal, making him the third-highest-paid footballer behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Earlier this year, Neymar returned to Santos, the club where he first made his name, scoring three goals in 14 appearances since his comeback. He is now focusing on staying fit to represent Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
If confirmed, the surprise inheritance would cement Neymar’s status as not just a global football icon but also one of the richest sports figures in history.
